Huddle Up

Welcome back high school football… in the spring 2021. In a crazy year of Covid 19, high school football in Virginia was postponed last fall to err on the side of safety for the kids and communities. Little did we know how big of an impact not playing high school sports would have on our kids. Unusual times calls for unusual solutions.  So here we are, late February, playing our 2020-21 season…but at least we are playing. This first week, Crunch covered six games, including three bonus games. Coaches and players have really worked hard to get ready for the 6 game (if you can get it… ask William Fleming) regular season and then a 4 week postseason with state champions crowed in 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A. I list them out because if you haven’t heard there is a move afoot to draw back the six classes to four in the coming years, but that’s another story for another day. We had some good football played this first week. In our featured Roanoke Crunch game Patrick Henry survived to fend off Hidden Valley 14-6. Our Lynchburg Crunch feature was a battle between LCA and Brookville, which the Bees won 25-14. Our third Crunch contest in the NRV was Salem traveling to Christiansburg and getting the 35-13 win. We also covered three bonus games – Pulaski County 42-0 over Cave Spring with Cougar Coach Mark Dixon’s first game, Stuarts Draft 27-0 over Glenvar in a snow storm, and Lord Botetourt 70-6 thumping of GW Danville.  (Read More)

Lord Botetourt Senior RB 10 Hunter Rice leaves defenders in his wake on Saturday in a 70-6 win over GW Danville in Daleville
