Huddle Up

With week three in the books, we are halfway through this crazy Virginia Spring Pandemic High School football regular season and it’s still as clear as mud for most of us on the outside. In our three area Crunch games – LCA 39-6 over William Fleming at Liberty University, Altavista 29-22 versus William Campbell in Naruna, and Glenvar bettered Floyd County 34-0 in Roanoke County at Glenvar high school. Great to see teams out playing and doing the things they love, but still a bit of a head scratcher as to how the post season is going to be figured out. Stay tuned we can’t wait to see how this plays out. Next play.  (Read More)

Bogle Stadium, Roanoke Va. – The Christiansburg Blue Demons traveled to Dwight Bogle Stadium to take on the Hidden Valley Titans Friday night with both teams looking for their first win on the season. Christiansburg was without their star QB 7 MJ Hunter who was sidelined due to a concussion, but in the spirit of the “next man up” philosophy – backup QB 8 Casey Graham (14/44 yds rush, 8/14 – 181 yds passing, TD) stepped in and had a great game leading offense while the defense pitched a shutout and the Blue Demons came away with a 26-0 victory. Graham connected with WR 2 Travis Altizer five times for 130 yards including a 55 yard TD strike. Of course it always helps a QB when the ground game is working and RB 42 Kenyon Johnson-Buchannon was definitely working on this night with 20 rushing attempts for 149 yards including a 31 yard TD scamper. The Titans could never get going on offense and give credit to the Blue Demon defense which held them to 48 yards rushing. Hidden Valley’s Matt Strong who normally carries the bulk of the rushing load left the game at the end of the 2nd quarter and did not play in the second half. After the game, Christiansburg Coach Alex Wilkens commented that “Casey (Graham) lead our JV team to an 11-1 football season last year… he’s a good leader… we felt confident coming into tonight’s game”. When asked about his team’s defensive effort he quickly gave credit to his defensive coordinator Coach Leonard and all the defensive staff. “Phenomenal… (they) made big plays tonight, bend but didn’t break at times, got us out of bad situations that our offense put them into, we are very proud of them”                                   – The Machine
