Week 5 – LYN Crunch
Coaches Comments
Each week we ask our area Crunch coaches in Roanoke, Lynchburg and New River Valley in our 38 participating high schools questions about their players, teams, performance, and their next opponent. The chart under the coaches photo is a ‘key indicator’ report card of the coach’s thoughts around whether his team or his opponent – won, tied, or lost the category in that particular game. At the bottom left is the team’s schedule of games and their scores as they are played. All this makes up the Crunch Coaches Comments section.
We ask the same questions each week. Players can be recognized multiple times for these superlatives. Additionally, if the coach feels like no one has risen to the deserved recognition this particular week, then you’ll see “no one selected.”
1) Quick Summary of this weeks game, 2) the coaches Player of the Week (a player who positively impacted the team in the game or that week’s practices leading up to the contest), 3) the coaches Unsung Hero (oftentimes a player who doesn’t necessarily touch the ball), a scout team player (typically a team member who is playing on the scout team to help the starters prepare for their next opponent), 4) a Character Player of the week (a member of the team who exhibits notable traits of moral excellence during that particular week), 5) (Game that) Caught your Eye, 6) Early Team to watch or (later in the season) the Hot Team.
The second section talks about the team’s Next Opponent, including who to watch (individual players/leaders who fans should keep an eye on), Won or Lost (simply where will the game mostly likely be won or lost), and what Stands Out (what is unique about this particular opponent, their program, or maybe there is a personal connection … like the coaches played together in college)
Below are this week’s comments from the coaches themselves.
