Eastern Montgomery dons ‘throwback’ uniforms in 41-16 win over Craig County
Eastern Montgomery High School, Elliston, VA – On a perfect night for football, the East Mont Mustangs celebrated homecoming with throwback uniforms and a hard fought 41-16 win over Craig County. East Mont was led by FB/LB 34 Xavier Brown with 10 carries for 64 yards and a score. Mustang Coach Jordan Stewart likes his Junior FB/LB, “Xavier runs like a horse, very strong in the weight room.” East Mont QB 12 Gage Akers managed the game with his feet as well. The Junior finished 8/37 rushing and 1/4, 48, TD passing. Rocket Coach Jimmy Fisher knew it would be a battle, “they’re scrappy up front, knew it was going to be a phone booth (close quarters battle) tonight.” The Rockets were led by QB 13 Zach Peters on the ground and in the air. Peters engineered two first half TD passes and subsequent successful 2-point tries. That kept it close at the half, 28-16. But the Mustangs had more in the tank after the break to pull away. Coach Stewart has a lot of respect for air. Peters engineered two first half TD passes and subsequent successful 2-point tries. That kept it close at the half, 28-16. They did what they wanted to do, lined up foot to foot, and ran the football … picked up yards. (We have) great respect for those guys.” Both teams battled, but it was the Mustangs night.”
