Floyd County takes care of business in 34-23 win over Carroll County
Norman G. Lineburg Field, Radford, VA – In possibly one of the best games this fall, Glenvar upset the previously undefeated Radford Bobcats at Lineburg Field with a walk off, one-yard TD pass from Freshman QB 15 Brody Dawyot to WR/DB 9 Gabe Ford in the back of the endzone as time expired. The Radford “D” had held Glenvar out of the end zone for three downs inside the three yardline on that last drive, but Glenvar excuted on fourth down.
Radford QB 7 Landen Clark looked to have had the game in hand, late in the fourth quarter, after Clark found WR 8 Marcel Baylor on a 5-yard TD pass with 2:50 left on the clock to put the Bobcats back up 34-31. But the tenacious Highlanders came right back. Dawyot had the biggest game of his young career with four second half TD passes. He found WR 9 Gabe Ford three times, 48, 6 and 1 yard in the air and WR 1 Jackson Swanson from two yards out. Radford had Glenvar down 20-10 at halftime, but the Highlanders scored on their first two drives in the third quarter and forced two Bobcat punts. Radford answered in the fourth, but Glenvar had the last word on the one yard TD toss. Glenvar Coach Clifford had finally seen one go his way. “We’ve been a second half team all year. In our three losses we’ve had the ball in our hands inside the ten yard line at the end with a chance to win. We just didn’t make the plays. Same scenario here. I asked the coaches and kids and they wanted to go for it (the win).”
