North Cross runs roughshod over Christchurch in 53-0 win in Roanoke
Cook Field, North Cross Campus, Roanoke, VA – The North Cross Raiders were locked and loaded as they entertained Christchurch on Saturday afternoon. It didn’t take long for the Raiders to assert their dominance. North Cross scored early and often, led by RB 4 Kam Johnson with 3 first half rushing TDs. Early on though, Coach Stephen Alexander thought Christchurch would load up the box and try and stop the Raider run game. The Raiders countered with QB 8 Conner Lange and a short passing attack. “Lange is so versatile. He can hurt you in many different ways. They were set on stopping the run which opened up some short passing opportunities,” said North Cross Coach Stephen Alexander. Both WR 10 Zach Morgan and WR 1 Ian Cann and broke off long runs for scores, 75 and 37 yards respectively, after short
passes. Cann’s TD brought the crowd to it’s feet as the Senior ‘waterbugged’ across the field, leaving defenders reaching for air. The Raider defense had another stellar effort. They’re aggressive and smart, just the way defensive coordinator and former NFL player Shannon Taylor likes them. Coach Alexander took notice as well, “Chase Daniel has been a force all year at LB and on the D-line. Morgan’s versatility is a huge weapon, as well. And when the interior D-line plays tough, it makes everything easier. Dylan England could be the unsung hero every week for us. He’s so consistent.” Virginia Tech commit, Big OL/DL 72 Hannes Hammer also made his presence felt on both sides of the ball. North Cross, the number 1 seed in VISAA D2, will now move on to the first round of the playoffs next Saturday at 1pm at home facing Fredericksburg Christian.
