LCA advances in 45-13 win over Seminole foe Rustburg in the playoffs
Liberty Christian Academy High School, Lynchburg, VA – In the post-season there are always a few teams most schools are hoping they won’t encounter in December. For the last few years, LCA has been one of those teams. But the Rustburg Red Devils are also one of those teams. Despite the final score, Rustburg put together a competitive game plan against the Bulldogs behind a game high performance from QB 10 Michael Knight (7/19 149 pass yards) and two first quarter TD’s from RB/LB 32 Marquavion Rosser (20/73 rush yards 2TD’s).
It was LCA’s special teams that made the difference this night. RB 2 Justis Belford opened the game up with a 52 yard kick off return, which set up RB 8 Gideon Davidson’s (16/117, 2TDs rush, 1/15 receiving) first score. QB 8 Jeb Moon (4/12, 92, 2TD’s passing, 1/13 rushing) connected with WR 11 Dalton Nesselrotte (3/7, 104, 3TDs receiving) for the Bulldog’s second TD and punched in LCA’s third on a 80-yard kickoff return to turn a one score game into a 21-7 Bulldog lead.
In the second quarter, LCA’s special teams forced two Rustburg turnovers that Coach Frank Rocco’s troops converted into 10 more points for the home team. Despite the Red Devil’s higher total yards at nights end, LCA’s defense made sure those yards didn’t translate into Rustburg points. LCA got the win over the Red Devils 45-13. LCA Coach Rocco was glad to get the victory over a good Rustburg team, “The talent they [Rustburg] have, we couldn’t sleep on.
