Franklin County overcomes 11 point deficit in beating Cave Spring 59-54 at home
Franklin County High School, Rocky Mount , Va – Franklin County (4-9; 0-3) overcame a first quarter 11-point deficit to Cave Spring (8-6, 5-1) storming back at the end of the game to get the 59-54 win at home. For the Eagles Tucker Harvey kept the home team in it with 24 points including 6 three’s. Down the stretch PG 4 Kendall Mattox took the ball to the basket creating shots, and drawing fouls. Mattox ended the night with 16 markers, and was 10/10 from the charity stripe. Also key down the stretch was G 2 David Kasey who tallied 8 points.
Cave was led by their star Kam Tinsley, who did his part with 23 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Knights to get the “W.” G 2 Shawn Turner kicked in with 14. Cave Head Coach Jacob Gruse wasn’t happy with the effort. “We weren’t very good tonight, turned the ball over, and just didn’t play very well.”
Cave controlled the first quarter as both teams pushed the action on their offensive ends of the court. Tinsley worked inside and out with 9 points in the stanza. The Knights Carter Cornett kept the momentum going with a power dunk and Cave led 22-11.
The second quarter was a push with the Eagles outscoring Cave 10-9. Nether team scored until Tinsley got a bucket three minutes in. Cave stretched their lead to 31-21.
In the third quarter, the Eagles clawed back into the fray making it all the way back to being down only a bucket 41-39.
In the final quarter, both teams traded buckets. The Eagles got two steals and G 4 Mattox made two free throws to put Franklin County up 53-51 with 1:37 left in the game. Mattox made two more foul shots with :27 left to put the Eagles up 57-53. Leading scorer Tucker Harvey finished the win off with a couple foul shots.
