Abingdon outpaces Carroll County 64-57 for 3A Region D Title
3D Region Championship, Cassell Coliseum, Blacksburg, VA– In a rough contest where the game was stopped to wipe up blood more than on time, the Lady Falcons prevailed despite Cavalier G1 Alyssa Ervin who dropped in 37. For Abingdon’s part, Sophomore G/F 54 Ainsley Trivette got the key buckets down the stretch, using her 6’4” frame to get to the rim. Her 29 markers proved big.
Abingdon put Trivette on Ervin out on top to try and control the Senior sharpshooters outside scoring. At first it was effective, holding Erving to seven in the first quarter and nine total for the half. Trivette had six at the break. Both upped their game in the second half. Carroll led 13-11 after one, but Abingdon surged ahead 29-24, outscoring the Cavs 18-11. The Falcons dropped back into a 2-3 zone to protect Trivette, once she picked up her second foul. Carroll County’s post player, F/C 20 Madison Lyons also picked up two early fouls, which hampered the Cavs ability to pressure inside buckets.
The second half witnessed an offensive display by both Ervin and Trivette. When the Falcons needed a bucket, it was Trivette, inside, who produced down the stretch. Even with Ervin’s point production, that proved to be the difference.
