Millirons takes and makes the big shot for Auburn as the Eagles ward off Lord Botetourt 65-63

ADAM WARD CLASSIC, Salem High School, Salem, VA – A matchup of two good teams, and subsequently talented Coaches – Terry Millirons of Auburn and Andrew Hart of Lord Botetourt, played out on the court Saturday. When it was all said and done, Auburn got the win 65-63 on Nicholas Millirons shot in the lane with seconds left. The younger Milliron scored 11 of his 17 total in the final quarter when the Eagles needed them most.

Both teams put on a show when it came to passing the basketball. Both teams moved it to the open man and finished with the bucket time and time again. One advantage Auburn did have was bench depth. Coach Millirons substitution strategy was more like a lineup change in hockey. All told, Botetourt stayed close and really countered Auburn’s inside size advantage with ball movement.

With Botetourt leading heading into the final stanza, Auburn cut into the lead early. G 1 Landon Marrs hit a three and followed that up with a ‘two’. All the while Millirons began to find his stroke, bitting a couple threes to make it 63-61 Botetourt with 2:10 left. Millirons scored to tie it at 63 with :48 left. The Senior guard added his shot in the lane with 2.7 seconds left for the final points. Botetourt had their chances down the line but couldn’t get those critical scores late.

Scoring:

Auburn – Nicholas Millirons 17, Drew Royal 16, Coahan Gordon 13, Landon Marrs 7, , Zac McGlothlin 4, Bryce Gill 4, Kobie Dalton 2, Andrew Martin 2  Lord Botetourt – Conner Dowdy 19, Carson Edwards 14, Landon Hayes 11, Brayden Wells 10, Danny Kidd 5, Blake Lovern 2, Braydon Whorley 1
