Maroon’s Goode and Kirtner lead scoring run in big win over Narrows

ADAM WARD CLASSIC, Salem High School, Salem, VA – The #2 in the state 2A rankings, George Wythe Maroons got off the bus making shots and never cooled off in their 35 point win over a good Narrows Green Wave team, #4 in the state in 2A. The Maroons were led by David Goode with 20, while Reed Kirtner added a strong 19.

Green Wave phenom G/F 24 Kolier Pruett was held scoreless in the first quarter and that was a bad omen for Narrows. Maroon G 12 Ty Campbell was also held without a bucket in the first quarter. Pruett finished with 16 on the day, while Campbell ended the day with 4. At the end of the first quarter, G 4 Kirtner got a tip in to make it 22-7 George Wythe.

Wythe extended their lead with an effective full court, trapping press. They were able to run the ball , speed up Narrows, and shot it well. The Maroons had a commanding 51-20 lead at the end of the half.

The Maroons coasted from there in the second half with most of the the starters resting in the fourth quarter. When the smoke cleared Wythe had an impressive 83-48 victory. There is a good chance these two could meet again in the playoffs, so stay tuned.
