Cave Spring’s balanced scoring too much for Hidden Valley in 59-38 win

Cave Spring HS, Roanoke, VA – The Knights (13-8) used balanced scoring to get the win against their closest rival, Hidden Valley (8-14) 59-38. F 33 Owen Sweeney led Cave with 17 points including three dunks. G/F 20 Kam Tinsley, who also had a dunk, notched 16, while G 3 Charlie Parker provided 11. The Knights scored 15, 12, 16, and 16 across the quarters.

Cave’s defense wasn’t also a factor holding the Titans to 5 first quarter points, leaving them 10 down. Sweeney had 8 in the first stanza. The home team led 27-18 at the break.

The second half was more of Coach Jacob Gruse’s troops throwing down. Parker, Cave’s sharpshooting guard who earlier this year broke (Cave-Duke-NBA) J.J. Redick’s three point record with nine, buried two threes in the third. Hidden Valley was also balanced in the scoring department, but it just wasn’t enough. G 2 Brady Bartlett, G 4 Wyatt Clarke, and G/F 12 Riley Phillips all finished with 9 points each. Bartlett’s hit three ‘three pointers’ in the final quarter showing off his chops from long range.

Cave Spring had nine players hit the scoring column on the night.
