Jefferson Forest hangs on in the second half to beat Roanoke Catholic by one in the Adam Ward opening on Saturday
ADAM WARD CLASSIC, Salem High School, Salem, VA – The opening game on Saturday didn’t disappoint, as the visiting Cavaliers from Jefferson Forest eeked out a one point win over Roanoke Catholic 52-51.
JF was led by Cooper Stamn with 20 points, followed by Isiah Scott and Ben Lesniak with 14 and 7 points respectively. The Cavs built up a 34-23 lead against the Celtics, but then had to hang on in the second half. G 0 Jayden Johnson scored all 10 of his points in the second half, 8 in the final quarter to lead Catholic. The Celts were balanced in the scoring department with Johnson’s 10 markers followed by Mason Williams with 8, Avery Johnson and Darmarcus Brown with 7 each, and Jalen Merchant with 5.
JF’s Stamns notched 15 of his 20 game high points in the first half. That included 4-three pointers. The Cavs had 8 threes on in the fray, while Catholic scorched the twines with 10.
