Northside erupts for 24 points in the final quarter in 75-50 win over Radford
ADAM WARD CLASSIC, Salem High School, Salem, VA – The Northside Vikings, #5 in the state 3A, showed why they are at the top of the Class 3A heap in an impressive win over the Radford Bobcats 75-50.
Viking G/F 21 Nick Crawford was awarded one of two Adam Ward Basketball scholarships at the game’s start with his ability to ‘take charges’ (drawing a foul on the offense by holding your position and letting the offensive player run into you). In his Northside career he has taken over 70. Fitting that in this contest he would drawl three more to add to his total.
Northside jumped out to an early 20-11 lead in the first, but Radford hung close throughout. G 24 Kai Logan got the Vikings jumpstarted with 7 points. Radford was led by F 24 Daniel Dehort Lewis and Luke Woodard with 5 and 4 respectively.
Coach Bill Popes’ Vikes extended the lead to 10 at the break, leading 36-26. G/F 23 Mykell Harvey had 5 in the stanza, while G 12 Cy Hardy and G/F 21 Crawford added 3 each.
In the second half, Northside stepped on the gas, as they are want to do outscoring the Bobcats 39-24. Marked by the scoring of Hardy (20 pts) and Harvey (19 pts), Northside rolled. Harvey had a couple of breakaway dunks, showing off his ‘hops.’ Northside moves to 18-3 on the year. Radford now stands at 9-8 on the season.
