Patrick Henry girls flexes muscle in 48-34 hard fought win over Salem

Salem High School, Salem, VA – The Patrick Henry (17-4, 12-0) Patriots traveled to Salem last night to take on the lady Spartans (18-2, 9-2) in a battle of the best in the River Ridge District. The Patriots came out on top 48-34 in a hard fought, physical game, handing the Spartans only their second loss of the year. PH gave Salem their first loss earlier this year. 

Both teams started out strong defensively. The first points of the game came at around the 4 minute mark. PH forward 13 Ainsley Gibson  stroked two ‘threes’ and finished the night with 18. Guard 2 Jada Cook was good for 7 markers in the first. Forward 12 Addison Gibson picked up two quick fouls. PH led 15-8.

Patrick Henry extended their lead in the second. Ainsley Gibson added five more to her total to give her 11 at the half.  The Patriots led 27-15. Salem Guard 4 Gabby Crawley was held scoreless in the half, with most of the credit going to Guard 23 Aizanique Banks. F 15 Bailey Rider led the Spartans at the break with 6 and finished with 11 to lead Salem. Center 20 Emme Custer kicked in with 4.

Salem stormed back after the half, breaking down the full court PH press, and finishing on the the other end. Custer scored 4 points and Crawley added three in the quarter to get it back to a 29-25 game at the end of the third quarter.

But PH is good and the bench is deep. The Pats outscored the Spartans 19-9 in the final stanza to get us to the 48-34 final.
