Glenvar prevails at home 75-63 over William Byrd in a game of scoring runs
Roanoke, VA – The Glenvar Highlanders jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Byrd got it back to five for a brief time, but that’s as close as they would get.
G/F 20 Brody Dawyot scored nine of his game high 34 in the first quarter. F 10 Aiden Hylton kicked in five of his 22 in Q1 as well.
Glenvar extended their lead to 37-23 by the half. G 4 Israel Hairston had nine points in the quarter to try and keep the Terriers in the game. This was a game of surges. Glenvar would go up, then Byrd would answer with a run, only to have the Highlanders get hot again.
Early in the second half Glenvar extended their lead to 18, but Byrd fought back to get it to 11. Hayden Eads for the visitors had nine points in their third. But Dawyot answered with nine of his own, while Hylton contributed five more.
The final quarter was a shooting gallery with Glenvar scoring 24 and Byrd keeping pace with 20, but the dye was cast in this one.
Hairston’s three pointer cut Glenvar’s lead to ten, but the Highlanders took the game back over. Reed Hutchinson added 11 points for the Highlanders. For Byrd Eads finished with 21, and Hairston netted 20 markers.
