Fleming Girls push the pace, the score in big 70-43 win over Carroll County Lady Cavs
ADAM WARD CLASSIC, Salem High School, Salem, VA – This one was physical from the outset. Carroll County Guard 1 Alyssa Ervin scored five early, but Fleming’s ‘bigs’ countered inside. F 35 Amia Worsham, and F 30 Deasia Priest both netted 4 and 3 points in the first quarter. Fleming led 11-8.
Fleming extended their lead to 8, 31-23 by half. Ervin was bothered by the rough play, although she’s a physical player herself. She still managed 17 points by the break, hitting a three as time ran down. Priest had 9 points, but foul trouble for Fleming was a concern. Fleming had three players, Zakyah King, Worsham, and Priest all with four fouls at the game’s end.
The lady Colonels extended their lead to 13 on the three point shooting of Worhsam and King, who hit 11 of her game high 20 in the second half, including three 3-pointers. Indicative of how physical the game got, the third quarter ended with Ervin getting a technical foul, and a double technical being whistled on F 32 Sarah Alderman and Fleming F 4 Shyanne Tate in a loose ball, tie-up under the bucket. Cavalier C 20 Madison Lyons also left the game late with a bloody nose suffered as she defended on a drive.
In the final quarter, Fleming pushed the ball up court with the fast break to get some easy buckets in winning 70-43 going away.
