Colonels beat Knights 50-44 in tough battle to the end
ADAM WARD CLASSIC, Salem High School, Salem, VA – In a much anticipated nightcap, William Fleming outlasted the Knights of Cove Spring 50-44 in a good battle. Fleming, #9 in the state in Class 5A, made it count late to get the “W.”
The first quarter started out fairly even with both teams battling on both sides of the court with no clear advantage. Fleming led 11-10 after one.
Fleming extended their lead to three by the half, 21-18, on the back of G 12 Jaron Walker with 8 tallies and G/F 5 Isaac Higgs and F 22 Quante Dillard with 4 apiece. Cave was led by their 6’7 point guard, Kam Tinsley (committed to West Liberty in WV) who led all scorers at the break with 9. His sharpshooting teammate, G Charlie Parker had 7.
The Colonels continued to lead after three, 36-26. But in the end Fleming had what it took to get the win. Walker kicked in 6 of his game high 20 on the night in the final 8 minutes. For Cave, G 5 Deshawn Washington and Tinsley both added 5 each. Tinsley ended the night with 19. Parker had 13.
For Fleming it was Walker with 21. Quante Dillard added 10, and Isaac Higgs was good for 7.
