Highlanders stay aggressive, blank Patrick County 5-0 in a Regional Semifinal contest
Group 2A Region C Boys Soccer Playoffs – Patrick County @ Glenvar
2A Regional Semifinals, Glenvar HS, Roanoke County, VA–
Junior Midfielder 11 Luke Farmer got it started with a penalty kick off the penalty arc in front of the goal @ the 32:52 mark of the first quarter.
Junior Midfielder 8 Seth Nichols blasted a winner from about the same spot as the first goal to make it 2-0 at the 23:39 mark still in the first quarter.
Glenvar Junior Midfielder 21 Ayden Hylton showed off his skills next in the goal area with a header with his back to the goal to make it 3-zip at the 15:12 mark, still in the first. Hylton was the beneficiary of a throw in from Sophomore Defender 14 Cooper Mullins. If you haven’t seen Glenvar play this year, Mullins takes a run from out of bounds and delivers the ball nearly to the goal. It’s quite an advantage for the Highlanders.
Senior Forward 15 Bryce King picked up a goal at the 27:31 mark of the second half. King took a pass from Sophomore Midfielder 18 Adam Saunders in the left corner and redirected the ball into the far right corner to make it 4-0 Highlanders.
Glenvar’s fifth and final goal came off a nice assist from Junior Midfielder 17 Griffin Geddes to Freshman Forward 12 Jax Rolling in front of the goal. Rolling drilled the score past the Patrick County’s Goalkeeper in the left corner.
Highlander Junior Goalie 00 Grayson Shepherd did his part when he had to. The Junior made a couple nice saves, but the Glenvar offense made sure that the ball was on the other side of the field most of the night.
Glenvar now moves on to take on Chatham, a 2-0 winner over Appomattox, at home in the other Region C Semifinal on Tuesday, May 28th. The winner of that contest will play the winner of Nelson County vs Radford.
