Welcome to CrunchTIME radio week 1- Fall of 2024, your high school, Live radio show for central and southwest Virginia high school sports.
It’s Crunch TIME Baby!….On today’s show we are talking about Crunch expanding to 42 high schools with the additions of Appomattox, Gretna, Chatham and Smith Mountain Lake. We have added 11 new coaches including the 4 new teams (they’re new to us) and you’ll hear snippets of the interviews we did with our three NRV coaches – Matt Herron at Christiansburg, Seth Greer at Carroll County, and Tim Cromer at Floyd County. You can go find the rest of their interviews on crunchhssports.com, and you’ll get to see the coaches themselves tell their story. In our first show we also talk some preseason high school football as we have had a couple really good scrimmages this week. Crunch traveled down to the University campus of Emory & Henry to watch Lord Botetourt battle Dobyns Bennett out of Tennessee on Thursday. Friday we caught two preseason tilts with Smith Mountain Lake vs North Cross, and then a battle of 3A Titans – the 2023 3A State Champion LCA Bulldogs visiting the Christiansburg Blue Demons. Later this week we’ll have a few videos of the action up as well.
Also on the show today we are blessed to have this week and every week a new segment called “Just say Yetz – No Holds Barred,” with Roanoke College Wrestling Coach Nate Yetzer talking grappling. The show will be a question and answer segment on wrestling brought to you by our good friends at Sportshaven. Special thanks to Robin Bennett. This week This will be fun to tune in to.
Next week, we hope to feature our two, new Lynchburg area coaches – Brookville’s Mark Lineburg, and Rustburg’s Dustin Russell. We will also feature two of our ‘New to us at Crunch’ coaches – Appomattox Coach Steve Castello, and Gretna Coach Shaun Miller. We will also have a special treat as we talk to a couple State Champion Volleyball returners – Caleigh Ponn and Maddi Carter, as well as their new head coach this year, Pierre Ellis. Don’t miss it.
