Explosive start fuels William Byrd to a dominant win


Dwight Bogle Field, Roanoke, VA – From the very first play of scrimmage, William Byrd’s Junior RB/DB 4 Jamez Toler exploded for a 65-yard TD run to put the Terriers up early 7-0 with only 11 seconds off the clock. Not too long after, disaster struck for the Titans with a fumble by punter 12 Trey Kemper.  Byrd Senior WR/DB 1 Kameron McKee recovered it on the 8yd line of Hidden Valley and three plays later, Toler punched it in for his second touchdown of the night. Byrd lived in the backfield early and often with three TFLs on the first few drives.


Thomas Purcell, Byrd RB/DB 22 Jerrett Shepherd punched it into the end zone from two yards out for the third touchdown of the first quarter making it 21-0 with 4:21 still left on the clock. To the Titans credit, they never gave up and kept fighting, but the Terriers had more scoring plans in mind.

After an interception by Terrier DB 11 Tate Kotz, Toler finished it off with a 10 yard run. to make it 28-0. Byrd added to that on the arm QB 9 Cannin Lutz. The Junior hit RB 22 Jerrett Shepherd for 15 yards, then for a 30-yard TD strike to make it 35-0 at the break.

Byrd would add four more second half scores to finish the game out. Toler added two more from 25 and 3 yards out respectively. Lutz hit HB 44 Thomas Purcell on an 11-yard TD pass, and then DB 10 Izayah Brown finished off the nights scoring with a ‘pick 6’ from 38-yards out. Toler finished the night with 9 carries for 128 yards and 4 TDs. The Byrd defense was a big factor as well logging 12 tackles for losses on the night. – Chase Dorman
