Heritage pulls away 21-7 in tight battle with Jefferson Forest
City Stadium, Lynchburg, VA – In an evenly matched battle Friday night, Heritage came out on top 21-7 as Seminole District action began. Heritage Coach Brad Bradley was ecstatic with the win , “Proud of our kids, proud of our coaching staff, happy to get out of here with a “W.” All of the credit goes to our kids.”
This one started out with the defenses having their way. Heritage had it three times and JF twice with only one first down between them in the first quarter. Forest broke the scoring seal in the second quarter on a 3-yard TD run by QB 15 Dylan Marks (8/20,TD rush; 4/8,84,TD pass) at the 9:31 mark. The drive started with a 42-yard pass from Marks to WR 4 Chris Reed Jr. to the Pioneer twenty-five. Five plays later JF led 7-0 after K 7 Cam McClendon’s point after. Heritage answered right back. Mixing the running of RB’s 9 Brayden Morgan (6/57), 8 David Bradley (10/65,TD), and QB 5 Ayden Slash (17/27,TD rush; 7/12/80,TD pass), the Pioneers tied it up 7-7 on Bradley’s one yard blast.

Early in the second half the tied turned for the Pioneers. Jefferson Forest took the second half kickoff from their own twenty-six to the Pioneer nineteen. But Marks, fighting for extra yardage, was stripped of the football and Heritage recovered. But again the defenses held up throughout the third quarter. It took until the 9:22 mark in the fourth for the Pioneers to take the lead. Bradley put the ball in Slash’s hands and ran behind that Pioneer line. Running hard up the middle, the Heritage QB took it in from 5-yards out to make it 14-7.

That proved to be all that was needed. Bradley was complimentary of Coach Crews and the Cavaliers, “Last year they pushed us around. I felt like we held our own tonight. At the end of the day, that’s a good football team (JF). Hats off to our kids. Hats off to their program.” Heritage added a score late on a fourth down, 30-yard TD pass from Slash to WR/DB 6 Tavion Clark (4/70,TD). – Cap’n Crunch
