Bees sting Franklin County 24-13 in Lynchburg Friday night
John “Bunker”Hill Field, Lynchburg, VA – The hive was buzzing at Brookville Friday night where the Brookville Bees took on the Franklin County Eagles. The big play of the game turned out to be
a fake punt in the third quarter that led to a first down and eventually a QB 7 Lincoln McDaniel (8/18,97,TD pass, 11/27, 2TDs rush) 19-yard TD pass to WR 3 Landon Smith (4/52,TD rec) to put the Bees up 24-0. Franklin County scored twice in the fourth on two passes, 36 and 34 yards, by QB 14 Winston Davenport (15/27, 193,2TDS passing, 6/52 rushing) to WR 15 Jacob Mullins (5/69,TD rec) and WR 6 Quincy Pruet (3/52,TD rec).
But it proved too little, too late. Brookville Started strong in the first quarter. Picking up two McDaniel rushing touchdowns (24 and 1) and a K 33 Logan Wright 30-yard field goal in the first half to build a 17-0 lead at the break. The Brookville defense was the story in the first three quarters shutting out the Eagles, led by LB 22 Jaiden Wooding with 9 tackles. DB 21 Yeaveon Anthony kicked in with 6 stops and an INT.
Franklin County’s defense was led by LB 4 Ryder Gardner with 9 tackles and OLB 22 Jayden Witcher-Hinson with 8 stops and 3 TFL.The Bee defense held strong until the 4th quarter. That’s when Franklin County made it close. The Eagles had a a chance to tighten it to a one possession game, but the Brookville defense denied the Eagles a two point conversion. In the end it was Brookville on top 24-13.
Both teams were very well matched, so the action was hard fought, and plentiful. Brookville Head Coach Mark Lineburg embraced the Bee’s underdog role. “We feel like we are the underdog right now and that’s a good place for Brookville to be. The underdog always feels like they need to go out and play harder than their opponent.” The underdogs got it done this night. – Wilson Andrake
