Amherst County creates big plays in 52-27 win over Brookville

Bunker Hill Field, Lynchburg, VA – Amherst County rolled into Lynchburg looking to thwart a six game losing streak against the Bees. They got that done 52-27 Friday night by committee. Lancer Head Coach Chris Moore credited his team with getting out of the blocks early, “We were able to get out to a quick start through big plays on offense and defense.”

QB 2 Devonte Wade was the big gun for the Lancers rushing 11 times for 152 yards,TD, including a 10-yard TD pass. Amherst County got this party started with a 2-yard TD run by RB 6 Aaron Thomas (8/39) to make it a 7-0 game after the extra point. Brookville answered right back on a scrambling 71-yard TD pass from QB 7 Lincoln McDaniel to TE 3 Jayden Miller who avoided a defender and then sauntered into the end zone to make it 7-7.

From there the Lancers put some distance between themselves and the Bees. The Amherst defense got into the act as Senior 35 Nic’Khale Fleshman picked off McDaniel on an out route and then darted 43 yards for the score.

Moore thought that was a big play, “The pick 6 by Nic’Khale was a huge play that added some separation early.” The Senior also contributed 80 yards on 9 carries on the offensive side of the ball.

On the defensive side, Amherst picked off McDaniel twice, Fleshman’s pick six and Aaron Thomas. DB/WR 24 Benaiah Williams had 15 total tackles and Wade chipped in with nine. Amherst County moves to 4-3 and Brookville drops to 3-4. – Crunch Staff
