Glenvar takes to the Air in 45-13 win over Floyd County
Highlander Stadium, Roanoke County – On a perfect night for football, Glenvar welcomed Floyd County to Highlander Stadium. That’s where the niceties ended.
“Proud of our players. We absorbed the gut punches… thought we settled down. Our QB made plays. Our receivers made plays. That’s kind of who we are right now.” – Glenvar Coach Kevin Clifford
The contest started with two Floyd County fumbles, the second on a deep QB/DE/P 15 Brody Dawyot punt that was hard to handle. The Highlanders recovered it on the Buffalo 6-yard line. On the next play, after a penalty, RB 1 Cooper Mullins took it in from there for the 7-0 lead after the PAT.

Glenvar followed that up on their next drive. This time QB 15 Dawyot (15/27,287,4TD pass; 9/81,TD rush) found WR/DB 8 Peyton Deel (4/88,2TDs) on a 59-yard strike down the middle of the field. Dawyot’s strong arm makes opponents defend the entire field. Glenvar added one more score to go up 21-0 on a Dawyot 12-yard TD run with 10:19 left in the second quarter. That’s when Floyd County got it going.
Buffalo QB 9 Sam Phillips (7/15,94,TD,3INTs pass; 19/131,TD rush) found WR 1 Gabe Hallet (3/55,TD rec) on a 42-yard pass and run to make it 21-6. The PAT was no good. Floyd made it a game on a fourth down, 11-yard scramble by Phillips with :39 left in the half. The PAT made it 21-13 Glenvar.
The Highlanders took care of business in the second half scoring 3 TDs on their first four possessions. All three were TD passes from Dawyot to WR 11 Cale Vaughn for 13-yards and then twice to RB 1 Mullins on tosses of 32 and 55 yards respectively. Glenvar K/WR/DB 4 Carl Muse rounded out the scoring with a 39-yard field goal in the fourth. Glenvar’s defense forced 5 turnovers which proved big on the night. Three were interceptions, two by DB/WR 3 Devin Clark and one by DB/WR 24 Jake Campbell.

That’s kind of who we are right now.” Floyd County never relented and fought like you’d expect from a Tim Cromer coached team. Clifford mentioned that they may see Floyd County again, “They’re tough. Coach Cromer’s done a good job.”
