“We had a lot of adversity this year, played some young players, but never gave up.”

James River Coach Tim Jennings

From the opening kick the Cougars went to work on the ground. After 11 straight running plays, Cougar Senior RB/DB 22 Easton Harris (22/143,2TDs) crossed the goal line from 5 yards out to put the Cougars up 7-0. The Knights would answer with a 12 play drive, resulting in a 32-yard field goal by K 33 Knox Taylor to make it 7-3 at then end of the quarter.

Knight DB 18 Josiah Merchant thwarted Patrick County’s next drive with an interception near the end zone. But Patrick County would extend their lead on a Harris 52-yard touchdown halfway through the second quarter. A fumble on the Knight’s next drive led to QB/LB 7 Avone Kidd punching it in from five to give the home team a 21-3 lead at halftime.

James River started the second half with a 13-play drive, but couldn’t get into the end zone. The Cougars wasted little time adding to their lead. QB 7 Kidd needed only three plays to take it 85 yards down the sideline, flipping the field. A few plays later Kidd made it count from 4 yards out, 28-3 Patrick County early in the fourth. James River QB/LB 10 Kody Park (15/31,129) played well for Knights. James River Coach Tim Jennings was proud of his team during a tough year. “We had a lot of adversity this year, played some young players, but never gave up.”   – Chase Dorman
