Cougars get 35-3 win over Knights on Homecoming Night
Stuart, VA – In the final regular season game of the season, a packed ‘homecoming’ house witnessed Patrick County beat visiting James River 35-3.

From the opening kick the Cougars went to work on the ground. After 11 straight running plays, Cougar Senior RB/DB 22 Easton Harris (22/143,2TDs) crossed the goal line from 5 yards out to put the Cougars up 7-0. The Knights would answer with a 12 play drive, resulting in a 32-yard field goal by K 33 Knox Taylor to make it 7-3 at then end of the quarter.
Knight DB 18 Josiah Merchant thwarted Patrick County’s next drive with an interception near the end zone. But Patrick County would extend their lead on a Harris 52-yard touchdown halfway through the second quarter. A fumble on the Knight’s next drive led to QB/LB 7 Avone Kidd punching it in from five to give the home team a 21-3 lead at halftime.
James River started the second half with a 13-play drive, but couldn’t get into the end zone. The Cougars wasted little time adding to their lead. QB 7 Kidd needed only three plays to take it 85 yards down the sideline, flipping the field. A few plays later Kidd made it count from 4 yards out, 28-3 Patrick County early in the fourth. James River QB/LB 10 Kody Park (15/31,129) played well for Knights.
