Crunch radio week 20 of games on CrunchTIME, your high school Live radio show for central and southwest Virginia high school football. Today’s show is our first of 2023, the second half of the 2022-23 school year. Featured today is Northside basketball Coach Bill Pope’s 600th win this week. We talk with Cave Spring after his Cave Spring Knights won their Bank of Botetourt tournament over the holidays. We also talk about Northside’s basketball team and their winning the championship in their NIT tourney, also over the holidays. Patrick Henry got a big River Ridge District OT win over Cave Spring and Lord Botetourt continued it’s winning ways in a win over William Byrd. For boys basketball, this all led up to the Chance Harmon Memorial Tourney in Floyd this weekend. We tackle the first night of that tourney as well. As far as girls basketball goes, we touch on it with a few big games but plan to talk more about the state of area girls bball right now in the area in coming shows. Carroll County continues to lead the way. Pulaski County, William Fleming, Patrick Henry, Lord Botetourt, and Cave Spring are all playing well. We also revisit the Big Orange Wrestling Tournament in Vinton from December 17th to finish out our reporting. Our last show aired before the finals there were complete. Two Crunch teams remain alive in the hunt for a state championship – Heritage, and George Wythe. Crunch is also transitioning to Boys & Girls Basketball and Wrestling. We feature a couple interviews with William Fleming Head Coach Mickey Hardy and Fleming player Isaiah Higgs after the Colonels big 2 point, walk off win over Roanoke City Rival Patrick Henry. We touch on scores for both girls and boys basketball. We also talk a little bit about the River Rumble Wrestling Tournament in Staunton River. Four Crunch teams remain alive in the hunt for a state championship – EC Glass, Heritage, Christiansburg, and George Wythe. Basketball and Wrestling started this week, so we touch on scores and talk around the start of winter sports. We have a postgame interview with Patrick Henry Boys Basketball Coach Jack Esworthy after their Tuesday win over Harrisonburg. The show features our U.S. Cellular-Crunch state championship post game interview with Auburn Eagle’s Head Coach Terry Millirons on Saturday. We also have our second great segment with another state champion coach on the show. Cave Spring Competition Cheer Head Coach Jen Koll gets into how important strategy is in competition cheering. Last but not least we have a post game interview with Dylan Saunders, Cave Spring’s big man. This interview was from earlier this season after the Knight’s defeated the Abingdon Falcons in the playoffs. The interview was relevant then and relevant for each game after that leading to the state championship win.
